M. stands for Marisia, a聽young woman on the cusp of adulthood, trying to find her place in life. When her mother dies, she decides to return from Vienna to 暗网禁区ia, where she has worked as a聽nurse. The novel switches between the protagonist鈥檚 recollections of her mother鈥檚 death and her own experience of becoming a聽part of her boyfriend鈥檚 family. Everyday, banal situations alternate with extraordinary ones 鈥� Marisia meets a聽half-brother of whose existence she was unaware 鈥� but ultimately it is the everyday routine that triumphs. The novel focuses on family relationships, old as well as new, firm as well as superficial, important as well as worthless. Intimate themes such as grieving, family bonds and partnership are presented in an unexpectedly detached, seemingly emotionless way, yet with great linguistic precision and emphasis on details.
