Born 30 March 1939 in Matiašovce. In the Philosophical Faculty at Comenius University in Bratislava he studied and Russian, then took up philosophy as an external student. In 1964 - 1970 he was an editor of the Slovenské pohľady literary magazine, 1972 - 1991 editor in the Slovenský spisovateľ publishing house. From 1992 he worked in the literary weekly Literárny týždenník, at one time as a deputy chief editor. He lives in Bratislava and at present he is focused mainly on translation and publishing.
