Juraj Kuniak was born in š and graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Technical University in Prague. Until 1992 he worked as a development worker at the Computing Technology Facility. He continued his university education at the Department of Computers in Bratislava. In 1990 he took part in a medical mountaineering expedition to Pamir Mountains. This dramatic story and his previous mountaineering experience were later reflected in his literary work. After returning from Pamir, he founded the publishing company Skalná ruža (The Rock Rose), which he still runs. He has published ten individual poetry collections, three collaborative collections, and translations of poems by Whitman and Hass. He writes children’s books and prose as well.
