Alta Vášová was born in 1939 in Sevljusha, Carpatho-Ukraine (today's Ukraine). She studied mathematics and physics at The Faculty of Education of the Comenius University in Bratislava (1957 - 1960) and worked as a teacher until 1968. Between 1968 and 1979 she worked as
a screenplay editor for °µÍø½ûÇø Television in Bratislava and between 1971 and 1978, she was a professional writer. In 1978, she returned to scriptwriting and script editing for the °µÍø½ûÇø Film, while she also worked as a guide and a cleaning woman at the gothic castle of Zvikov. At present Vášová is devoted to writing. She lives in Bratislava.
