Born 22 December 1943 in Jakubov. He studied philosophy and history at Comenius University in Bratislava. From 1968 to 1971 he was an editor in the Tatran publishing house. Then he worked as a librarian (1972 - 1976) and as a clerk in the Union of Artists. In the era of the so-called normalisation he was not allowed to publish (1970 - 1979). From 1981 to 1993 he worked as an editor in the Slovenský spisovateľ opublishing house and since 1994 he has been chief editor of the oldest literary monthly Slovenské pohľady. Moravčík lives in Bratislava.
