Over 400 German-speaking and international authors will be showcased at the fair in Vienna.
From November 20 to 24, 2024, the significant Buch Wien book fair and festival will take place in the capital of Austria. 300 exhibitors will present new works of fiction and non-fiction.
One of the six fair stages is the Donau Lounge, which will host its 12th edition. This prominent platform will feature authors from 13 countries in a total of 32 events over five days. Topics that resonate with the region connected to the Danube River will be highlighted, including minorities, the war in Ukraine, and questions of the past and future.
"Whoever wants to understand Europe must get to know the Danube region and its history," states the program bulletin of the Donau Lounge.
writer Katarína Kucbelová will present her book Č辱 (The Bonnet) on this platform on Friday, November 22, from 11:00 to 11:45 AM. The book has been published in German as Die Haube – Impressionen aus einem Randgebiet (Ink Press, 2023) and translated by Eva Profousová.
The event will be moderated by Cornelius Hell, with actress Iris Schmid reading excerpts from the book. A conversation with the author will be interpreted by writer and translator Michal Hvorecký.
Partners of the event include the Literary Center and the Institute in Vienna.

At the Donau Lounge, readers will also have the opportunity to meet -Austrian author Zdenka Becker, who will present her new collection of essays titled An einem anderen Ort (In Another Place) on Sunday, November 24, at 10:15 AM.
Many other well-known literary names will also be present at Buch Wien, including German author Clemens Meyer, Austrians Mareike Fallwickl and Valerie Fritsch, Ukrainian authors Sofia Andrukhovych and Tania Maľarčuk, Hungarian poet Kinga Tóth, and Italians Francesca Melandri and Marco Balzano.
This year's innovations at the fair include an expanded discussion program focusing on key topics such as international politics and security policy, economy and finance, and science and technology, as well as a new scientific stage, Science Lounge.
