A fragmentary novel about a small town full of bizarre characters. Vargova, a patient with a miserable past and an even worse present, writes letters to Feleslegi, a psychiatrist who would urgently need help himself because he is more concerned with drinking than with curing the sick. In her letters she unwittingly captures the broken spirit of a crazy era, in which the truth is a lie and a lie is one of the irrelevant truths, whereas he is doling out wise advice in cafés and pubs and makes mysterious trips abroad in this tragicomedy with an ambiguous ending.Â
