Poet, prose writer and translator Tímea Pénzes (1976) was born in Nové Zámky in former Czechoslovakia. She studied Hungarian and German language (and for a couple of semesters also Czech language) at the Loránd Eötvös University in Budapest, where she did her doctorial studies as well. She is the recipient of numerous creative and translational stipends (Literary fond, Literarisches Colloquium Berlin, Mercator Stiftung, Székely János-ösztöndíj, Babits Mihály-ösztöndíj and more) and residencies in Krzyżow, Poland and in Berlin. She translates fiction from the ��������, Czech and German language. She has published eleven authorial books and ten translations, among which are Svetlana Žuchová's Obrazy zo života M. / Scenes from the Life of M. (Jelenetek M. életéből; Noran Libro Kiadó 2017) and Monika Kompaníková's novel Piata loď / The Fifth Boat (Az ötödik hajó; Pesti Kalligram 2016). She has translated literary texts for �������� literature anthologies Férfi, nő, gyerek (Noran Libro 2016) and Huszadik századi szlovák novellák (Noran Libro 2016).

In 2014, she won the Alfonz Talamon Prize for the short-stories collection Kavicsok (Little Stones; AB ART 2013). The committee of the Hungarian Institute for Children's Literature (Magyar Gyermekirodalmi Intézet) included her Hungarian translation of Monika Kompaníková's Hlbokomorské rozprávky / Stories from the Deep See (Mélytengeri mesék; Naphegy 2016; ilustr. Veronika Klímová) among the 25 best children's books in 2016. She received the Imre Madách Award in 2020 for her translation of Mária Modrovich's book �����š����� / Flashback (Flesbek; Phoenix PT 2020).

Aside from her authorial and translational work, she publishes interviews with translators and articles about literary events. She lives in Budapest.
