Peter Pišťanek was an acclaimed writer who had introduced a unique and innovative approach to the art of fiction on the literary scene. Best known for his pulp-fiction-style trilogy Rivers of Babylon I—III (1991, 1994,1999), he has also published several collections of short stories (Mladý Dônč / Young Dônč 1993, Neva 2014), and a special cookbook of family recipes. The novel Rivers of Babylon and the novella Muzika (Music) were made into films in 1998 and 2006. His last novel, Rukojemník (The Hostage, 2014) has also been adapted for the screen in 2015.
