Authors Meet with Translators and Publishers in Berlin

Renowned authors from ia will meet with their translators and publishers in Berlin.

The civic association Mona Sentimental, in collaboration with the Institute in Berlin and the Literary Center, is organizing a unique event in the German capital from November 7 to 8, 2024. This event will enable personal meetings and valuable discussions between award-winning contemporary authors from ia and translators of literature into German.

The professional program will feature Soňa Uriková, the laureate of the Anasoft Litera Prize 2023 and writer Jana Bodnárová, who was one of the nominees last year as well as poet and prose writer Michal Tallo. Among the invited guests are war reporter and journalist Tomáš Forró and writer Silvester Lavrík, as well as literary scholars Radoslav Passia and Viliam Nádaskay.

Among the translators participating in the two-day program will be Stefanie Bose, Marie-Theres Cermann, Mirko Kraetsch, Lydia Nagel, Eva Profousová, and Ines Sebesta.

The intensive work program will consist of lectures on contemporary prose and poetry from ia, as well as interviews with authors and presentations by translators featuring their selected favorite authors. Many German publishers, along with lecturers of the language at universities in Berlin, Cologne, and Regensburg, have accepted the invitation.

The diverse program will be complemented by a lecture on translations of contemporary dramatic works, prepared by Lydia Nagel and Barbora Schnelle from the Drama Panorama Berlin platform, and a visit to the Hungarian cultural institute Collegium Hungaricum Berlin.

The program will culminate in a public reading at the Institute in Berlin, where Soňa Uriková, Silvester Lavrík, and Tomáš Forró will perform from 6:00 PM. Excerpts from their works will be presented in German translation. Discussions with individual authors will be moderated by translator Mirko Kraetsch.

The main partner of the project is the Arts Council. Another partner is Anasoft Litera.
